I can’t wait to see what Sophie Kinsella delivers next, but until then I’ll be hitting up her backlist.In an effort to cut down on posts and burnout, my Review Roundups will feature 2-4 books I’ve read or listened to recently. Hilarious, sweet and completely binge-worthy, Love Your Life is a fabulous romantic comedy that celebrates relationships as they really are – warts and all.
The supporting characters also shine here, thanks to Kinsella’s fantastic character-work, and it’s truly a joy to follow each of them. They’re polar opposites – despite Ava’s persistent claims that they’re 100% compatible – and watching them try and reconcile their differences makes for a very entertaining reading experience filled with plenty of mishaps and laugh-out-loud moments. Then there’s Matt, who eats meat, collects creepy artwork, lives in an ugly industrial apartment building, and has zero work-life balance. There’s the protagonist, Ava, a hopeless romantic and eternal optimist who is strictly vegetarian, listens to Mexican spirit power music, and can never stick to one task long enough to see it through. One of the most enjoyable parts of the novel – and there’s a LOT to love about it – is the colourful cast of characters that practically leapt off the page. This was my first Sophie Kinsella novel, and I’ve got to say, I’m impressed! What a hoot! I was hooked from the very first page, and giggling hysterically throughout, as I followed Ava and Matt’s hilarious attempts to overcome their differences and find one life, together.
